3:45PM: Tensor complexes

The Eagon--Northcott complex is a free resolution built from a matrix (i.e. a 2-tensor). I will discuss how to take an arbitrary higher tensor and build a number of free resolutions from that tensor. Our construction generalizes the construction of the Eagon--Northcott complex, and we can describe the resulting free resolutions quite explicitly. This is joint work with Berkesch, Kummini, and Sam.

5:00PM: Maximal Minors and Leading Terms

In this talk I'll follow a paper by Sturmfels and Zelevinsky concerning the maximal minors of a matrix. By studying a certain Newton polytope, I'll describe how they were able to combinatorially answer the question of whether the maximal minors form a universal Groebner basis.}
