3:45PM: The Moving Lemma and its uses

Joe Harris

Intersection theory was for many years founded on the Moving Lemma, but all modern treatments are founded on the Fulton-MacPherson “deformation to the normal cone” instead. This expository talk will discuss the reasons for the switch; present various versions of the moving lemma; and explain why it may still be useful to understand Lemma itself.
